Starting 2026 With Intention (Not Pressure)

New Year, Clear Intentions

Wishing you a very Happy New Year! As we step into the new year, I want to begin by saying this: You do not need to have everything figured out right now.

January often comes with a lot of pressure to set resolutions, make big changes, become better, or have many goals. For many people, this can feel overwhelming, especially if the year before was emotionally demanding.

Instead of rushing ahead, I invite you to approach 2026 with gentleness, curiosity, and intention. This can be a time to reconnect with what truly matters to you at your own pace.

From Resolutions to Intentions Unlike resolutions

Unlike resolutions, intentions are not about fixing yourself. They are about aligning your actions with your values – the things that give your life meaning.

You may want to reflect on:

  • What do I want more of in my life this year?
  • What feels most important to me right now?
  • When do I feel most grounded or like myself?

Journaling prompts:

  • In 2026, I want to show up as someone who…
  • The values I want to live by this year are…
  • When life feels difficult, I want to remember that…

3 Ways to Support Your Mental Health This Month

  1. Anchor your days in your values. Rather than focusing on outcomes, try asking: Does this choice move me closer to the kind of person I want to be?
  2. Make space for uncomfortable emotions. Growth often comes with discomfort. Allowing emotions without judgment can reduce their intensity and help you respond more thoughtfully.
  3. Keep self-care realistic. Self-care doesn’t need to be elaborate. Small, consistent practices such as rest, boundaries, or connection can be deeply regulating.
When therapy can help:
If you are feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected from yourself, therapy can offer support and clarity in a compassionate space where you can explore what’s holding you back.

Start Your Year with the Right Support

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a values-based approach that focuses on helping you live a meaningful life, even in the presence of stress, anxiety, or difficult emotions.

ACT supports you in:

  • Clarifying your core values
  • Developing psychological flexibility
  • Learning to relate differently to difficult thoughts and feelings
  • Taking small, intentional steps aligned with what matters most

This approach is especially helpful at the start of a new year, when many people are re-evaluating priorities and seeking direction without self-criticism.

If you would like support setting mental health intentions for 2026, exploring your values, or navigating emotional challenges, I’d be happy to connect. I offer a free 15-minute consultation where we can talk about what you are looking for and see if therapy feels like a good fit.
