Frequently Asked Questions

What is psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy, also known as talk therapy, is a form of mental health treatment that uses evidence-based psychological approaches to support emotional well-being, improve mood, change unhelpful patterns, and address life challenges.

During psychotherapy sessions, the client and therapist build a collaborative therapeutic relationship and work together toward short-term or long-term goals focused on improving mental health, self-awareness, and overall well-being.

Do you work with children?

Yes. I offer therapy services for children, using developmentally appropriate and play-based approaches to support emotional and behavioural concerns. My work with children may include Theraplay®, play therapy, and arts-based techniques to support emotional regulation, anxiety management, and behavioural challenges.

In Theraplay sessions, I work with both children and their caregivers to help strengthen the parent–child relationship, improve connection, and support healthier interactions.

Do you offer therapy for refugees?

Yes. I provide mental health support for refugees in a safe, trauma-informed, and culturally sensitive therapeutic space. Therapy is tailored to each individual’s lived experiences, which may include displacement, resettlement, trauma, loss, and cultural adjustment.

Sessions move at your pace and are guided by respect for your background, values, and personal experiences, with a focus on emotional safety, resilience, and well-being.

Is therapy covered under my benefits/insurance?

Psychotherapy services are not covered under OHIP, but they are covered under most employee benefits, and by WSIB insurance for Ontario residents. I do not offer direct billing, so please contact your insurance to confirm the services are covered.

Do you offer WSIB or WCB/WSB coverage?

Yes, psychotherapy services are covered by WSIB in Ontario and WSB in Alberta.

How do I reach out to book an intake session or consultation?

You can email me at farahpsychotherapy@gmail.com or call me at (647) 932-1484. There is an online form on the website that you can complete indicating a good date time for the session or the free consultation. We also offer virtual sessions available to book here.

How many sessions do I need?

The length of treatment depends on many factors such as availability, finances, commitment to therapy and the therapy goals. After the first few sessions, we can discuss and have an idea of how many sessions you may need based on your goals. According to the research, most individuals stay in therapy for approximately 12-20 sessions to achieve their goals. Some may need fewer sessions, and some may need more, depending on their presenting problems and the goals they are trying to achieve.

Can I do my session online?

Yes, currently we are offering virtual therapy only via secure video call or phone call.

How much is the cost of each session?

The cost of the session varies based on the type of therapy provided. I also offer a sliding scale. To inquire about the session fee, please book a consultation.
