Our thoughts are very powerful, and sometimes we may lose sight of them. Our thoughts are what shape our perception of the world around us, which ultimately influences our emotions and well being. The great thing about the human mind is that we have the capabilities to change our reality by fostering a positive thinking process, and consequently this leads us to feeling happier. This blog will explore various strategies for rewiring our mind to cultivate a positive outlook.
Challenge the Negative Thought: When you notice a moment you are having a negative thought, take a step back and ask yourself how you can challenge it. Oftentimes we may make an assumption which is not entirely true; it is rooted in fear.
Reframe Negative Thoughts: Replace any negativity with positive affirmations. For example, instead of saying, “I can’t do this,” try saying, “I am going to give it my best shot.”
Mindfulness: Mindfulness allows you to be in a state of self awareness, reducing rumination or negative thoughts. Some examples include meditation, journaling and breathing exercises.
Practice Self-Compassion: Sometimes we get caught up in our thoughts to the point where we forget to be kind and compassionate towards ourselves. Treat yourself like your own best friend.
If negative thinking patterns are impacting your day to day life, consider a psychotherapist or counsellor for guidance. Remember, our mental well being is a journey and you are not alone.
